Testing For COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only claimed countless lives, but it has also completely transformed the way we live. Many Americans are still without jobs, others are afraid to leave their homes, and those who are brave enough to go out have to don their mask to try and prevent the spread of this deadly virus. If you feel that you need to be tested for COVID-19 or are being asked to get tested, the dedicated team at DoctorMeNow can help!
Should I Get Tested for COVID-19?
Not everyone needs to be tested for COVID-19. If you are feeling healthy, practicing social distancing, and remembering to wear your mask while in public, the chances of you contracting this virus are low. However, if you come in contact with any of the following, you should get tested:
- People who are showing symptoms such as:
- Fever
- Chills
- Dry cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Nausea or Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- People who have come into close contact with another individual who has been infected by COVID-19
- People who have been asked to be tested by their health care provider, local or state health department
What Can I Expect From a COVID-19 Test?
There are two types of COVID-19 tests: a nasal swab test which allows for immediate results and a blood test that tests for antibodies to the virus.
Understanding the Test Results
If you have tested positive for COVID-19, our staff may recommend the following to you:
- Stay Home and Self-Quarantine: Do not leave your home except to get medical care. Stay away from public areas for at least two weeks to allow the virus to safely run its course and leave your system. Leaving your home or coming into contact with other individuals puts them at risk of contracting the virus.
- Stay In Contact With Your DoctorMeNow Doctor: Keep in contact with our staff during this time. We can help ensure that you are getting the care, medicine, and advice you need to ensure a successful recovery. If your symptoms worsen, we may recommend that you contact emergency personnel to get you admitted to a hospital.
- Get Rest. Stay Hydrated: As with any illness, it is extremely important for you to get plenty of rest and stay hydrated. This will allow your body to properly fight off this virus and will help you feel better. Make sure to also take medicine, either over-the-counter or prescribed, to alleviate symptoms.
If your test comes back negative, you can be relieved that you do not have COVID-19. However, make sure you continue to practice social distancing and wearing your mask in public. Wash your hands regularly and continue to practice safety measures to ensure that you remain healthy. If you ever have any questions or concerns, you can always turn to our caring staff for answers.
